Welcome. Let's help your child learn from home.

Your child learns live online, in small classes, with real teachers. This page shows you how it all works. Take it one step at a time.

The emails we send

Everything your child needs comes by email. Here are the three to look out for.

1before you start
Welcome emailWhen we set up the account
  • Username and password
  • The Student Handbook. Read it before lesson one.
  • The weekly timetable and start date
2day before
Reminder emailThe day before lessons start
  • Username and password again
  • How to log in
  • What the first lesson is like
330 min before
Lesson starting soon30 minutes before every lesson
  • A link to join, one tap
  • Sent before every lesson
  • Your child gets it too. Help them get ready.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง

Your child gets these emails too. They can join from the link. But it is best to help them log in to their own account. Then the timetable, lessons and progress are all in one place.

Getting started

How to log in

Use the username and password from the welcome email. It takes about a minute.

1

Go to the website

Open purpleruler.com. Click Log in (top right).

2

Log in with email

Click Log in with email. Type the email and password from your welcome email. Click Log in.

3

Join the lesson

The dashboard shows the timetable. Lessons open at their set time. Your child just needs to be signed in.

๐Ÿ“ง

Keep your email address correct with the school. We send logins, reminders and reports to it. A wrong email stops the lesson links. It is the most common problem, and the easiest to avoid.

A good day at home

Helping at home

You do not need to teach. Just help your child be ready and settled.

๐ŸŽง Before each lesson

  • A quiet space
  • A charged laptop or tablet, and the charger
  • Headphones
  • Signed in a few minutes early
  • Camera on when they feel able. It helps them join in.

๐Ÿค During the day

  • Stay nearby. Let your child lead.
  • Water, and a short break between lessons
  • Notice the wins. Turning up is progress.
  • If something was hard, tell the teacher or school
  • Keep a calm, regular routine
The most important thing

Coming to lessons

Coming often, even a little at a time, makes the biggest difference. Each lesson builds routine, trust and confidence.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Small steps, then more

  • Many children start with just a few lessons. That is fine.
  • As they feel braver, they do more lessons and subjects.
  • The reminders make turning up easy.
  • We ask one thing: that your child is there. We do the rest.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Can't come? Tell us

  • Tell us early when you can.
  • A planned absence is fine. It will not count against your child.
  • The teacher can plan around it and help them catch up.
  • Tell your school, or email us (see Getting help).
Staying in the picture

Reports you get

You will not be left guessing. Here is what comes to you.

๐Ÿ“Š What we send

  • A weekly update on which lessons your child joined
  • A progress report each half term. It shows how they are doing, written kindly.
  • A short summary each term

๐Ÿ” If a different teacher covers

  • Sometimes your usual teacher is away. This is rare.
  • We email you. Another specialist teacher will cover that lesson.
  • Want to skip that one lesson? You can. Reply, or use the link in the email.

Getting help

A login that will not work? A change to make? A worry? Here is how to get help fast.

Start here

Ask your school first

Your school set up your child's place. They can fix most things fast:

  1. Logins
  2. Timetable and group changes
  3. Adding or pausing lessons
  4. Passing on anything you tell them

Not sure who to ask? Try your child's head of year or SENCO.

Or email us

Email our team

You can email us any time. Send a short email to support@purpleruler.com. Tell us:

  1. Your child's full name and school
  2. The Course ID, if you have it (it is on the dashboard and your reports)
  3. What you need, in a sentence
We pick it up and reply by email: Open In progress Done

Safe & supported

Staying safe

Ofsted checked our safety and said it is fine. Lessons are a watched, private space. Not the open internet.

๐Ÿ”

Own secure login

Each child has their own private login. Only known pupils are in a lesson.

โœ…

Checked teachers

All staff pass strict checks before they teach.

๐Ÿ‘€

Watched and protected

Cameras on, lessons watched live, and filters block bad sites.

๐Ÿ›Ÿ

Always someone to tell

If something feels wrong, you can tell us fast. See below.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

Worried about something? Tell us now. Email safeguarding@purpleruler.com. Or talk to the teacher in the next lesson. Or use the Report a Concern link in your emails (you can do this without giving your name). We treat safety as urgent.

The agreement

Rules & policies

๐Ÿ“Œ When your child joins a lesson, you and your child agree to these policies. They keep every child safe and learning. Please read them.

You can also read all policies any time at purpleruler.com/policies.

The classroom rules ๐ŸŽ’

Simple rules every learner follows in lessons. Look through them with your child before they start.
